Req: File format settings in save dialog (w/ just once opt)
When using "Save as.." the dialog behaves like a black box with no way to tell what the current settings are (crucial esp. for jpeg) and any means to change them. You need to cancel, go to "Format Settings", select the "Write" tab, search for the correct file format tab, change settings, repeat ...

Re: Req: use system exiftool first (Win)
Having said that, I cannot personally think of an instance where I would have needed it for XnView (MP), but there could be instances where the latest camera models need newer support.
I've dabbled a lot with metadata and tagging recently, and with this experience I can say that the exiftool ...

Req: use system exiftool first or specify custom path (Win)
As XnView isn't updated that frequently, a lot of newer exiftool versions get released in between. Sure, you can replace or ntfs-hard-link the exiftool-exe in the "AddOn" directory, but it's the same with XnView as with the other gazillions of apps using it. The dev of exiftool will thank you, too ...

Re: Remember crop aspect ratio
Are they not working, or do I misunderstand?
I was refering to the crop tool when initialized with the icon on the toolbar (which opens another bar ft. an aspect ratio dropdown) - that's where it always resets to free. But thanks for the pointing out other method via the menu and simply using ...

Remember crop aspect ratio (via crop icon/toolbar)
This is minor, but still could be optimized for a nice boost in productivity. Whenever you chose the "crop" tool, the aspect ratio defaults to "Free" even if you have set something else before. However, I guess the usual workflow is to cut (and re-cut) the same or multiple pictures to the *same* ar ...

Re: XMP metadata not shown in png
XnViewMP show me the XMP for png, so please send me one of your png file?
Sure, attached. It's not unusual, I simply deleted all metadata from the files and did "exiftool -XMP-dc:Subject=Testing123 *". With these and XnViewMP, when right click on image -> Properties the xmp tab shows for the jpg ...

Re: Random slideshow gets stuck (0.72)
See Issue 630 for current status and details.
Thanks, "resolved in 0.75" ... sorry for asking the obvious, where does one obtain a version newer than 0.72 which seems to be the only version linked around here? Or are you also doing release numbers for versions that are aren't public? Thanks.

Re: XMP metadata not shown in png
Do you have xmp in your png file?
Absolutely, since I do multi-language tags for my photography I had to drop the whole iptc "encoding of hell" and whatnot legacy stuff and switched to multilang & utf-8 xmp.
You can add xmp tags to png just like that with exiftool, and esp. in this case it's ...

XMP metadata not shown in png
The properties box for png files only shows the iptc data, but not xmp. Standard-wise, this is the exact wrong way 'round, as iptc isn't meant to be there (but works fine with exiftool), but xmp or legacy png tags are the official way.
Suggestion/Bug: Please add the xmp tab to png files.

Support XMP metadata in browser
In the browser details, you can only select from a fixed list of iptc & exif metadata variables. However, XnViewMP is able to display most xmp metadata in the image "Properties" just fine, so obviously the toolkit is there w/o calling exiftool. XMP is becoming more important as esp. the move from ...

Re: Random slideshow gets stuck (0.72)
are you able to reproduce it with 3 images?
Good debugging idea! I've got 3 images 1.jpg, 2.jpg and 3.jpg...
1. View 1.jpg and start slideshow - keeps switching a few times between 2.jpg and 3.jpg, 1.jpg is never to be seen again. That's probably the "big" bug that makes the show getting stuck ...

Re: Random slideshow gets stuck (0.72)
do you have a lot of files in this folder?
No, not at all - I can reproduce this reliably even with a very small amount of files. But my laptop is rather slow to begin with and has crawling hard disk speed if other programs are active, if this helps.

"One instance of program only" hangs XnViewMP
Sometimes XnViewMP doesn't seem to be able to detect if there's an instance already open, hanging the programs with multiple "xnview.exe" processes stuck in the task manager. The only way to resolve this is to kill all tasks manually.

Re: Duplicate finder
My image library has many, many duplicate images in it. I'd like to remove some, but it is hard because other image duplicate finders dont know which ones I have tagged or not. It would be nice if there was a build in function to allow us to find duplicate images in our library, and see which one ...
