I bit more information on the "progress" bar. I think I have seen why the results are different for different people.
The progress update only seems to happen when the scan goes to the next selected folder.
If I select 5 folders then I will see 5 steps. They are very uneven, because in that example ...

Bonus
Not only is the memory leak fixed, but the speed of search is also much faster - 20 seconds to do what took 8 minutes previously. The IPTC is still faster than XMP - 8 seconds.

The "1.#J" is now replaced with zero, which matches the exif:shutterspeed value.
It does mean these sort in the wrong order (faster than the fastest shutter speed), but this will do until proper exposure times are used.

dramatic improvement in speed as well as reduction of number of bytes written.
As an example, I could no longer measure my test for 1000 files.
So I scanned 11000 files - in 9 seconds, and a total of about 9MB written.

When importing images, sometimes I encounter images with a lot of spam tags. I haven't found a way to just delete all tags.
You can select all undesired keywords and press the X key.
