"Must fixes" for next release

Post by xnview »

There's more and more XnView users and more and more specific bugs are found and reported. This is very good, much appreciated and helps to improve XnView's quality!

With all the defects reported it's important that serious issues which affect software quality or limit functionality are fixed with high priority.

Indicators for "must fixes":
• Crash / General Protection Fault (GPF)
• Memory leak
• Important functionality cannot be used at all.
• Users' images are endangered (changed, deleted, ...)

If you think that a specific, already reported bug is very serious and a must fix, please place a post here with title and link of the original topic and the effect (Crash, ...).

Notes:
• Make sure that a problem is reproducable before posting it here.
• Please do NOT report new bugs as reply to this topic, instead please start a new topic using the bug report template.

Thank you and Greetings,

Pierre
Pierre.

- Current list of must fixes -

Undo add category should remove from list http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=62&t=30823
Effect: Base functionality does not exist

Hide titlebar bug. http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 55#p137555
Effect: Feature cannot be used

"0.84: 'Del' key on categories deletes files", see http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=32816
Effect: User may accidentally delete image files.

"0.48 Win7 x64: Clipboard glitch and other bug", see http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=25527
Effect: Clipboard is deleted when closing XnView. This is irritating, can break workflows and user may even loose parts of his/her work.

"0.84: Thumbs + Details = never ending growth", see http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=34997
Effect: Can make "Thumbnails+Details" view unusable.

A first batch:

• Dangerous but easy to fix: Check for orphaned files/directories can wipe catalog info (the user can wipe data entered for photos from offline external disks, network shares etc.)
*** Fixed in 0.85

• Frustrating & dangerous (one thinks that he copies "all" tagged files - let's say 100 - but in fact he will copy only the first 15-20): How to lose your work when tagging files
*** Fixed in 0.85

• Frustrating - base functionality does not exist: Undo add category should remove from list (how do I remove an Assigned category without (re)searching for it???)
*** Open

• Booooooo! (we are in 2017 AD): USB stick not detected (one needs to restart the entire XnView MP just to see a USB stick...)
*** Fixed in 0.85

• No LAN support - basic functionality failure: Folders view: No LAN
*** Fixed in 0.85

• Plain wrong workflow - dangerous: IPTC window: Wrong workflow with multi-selection
*** Fixed in 0.85

Hello:

I would say theses two bugs:

1. Hide titlebar bug. I really can't use this feature at all now.
http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.p ... 55#p137555
*** Open

2. Folder tree sync/refresh issue. This could cause bad results as seen by XnTriq's test.

*** Fixed in 0.85

@m.TH. and Erixx haxx: Thank you for pointing to these severe and important bugs.

Bug: 0.84: Video play, pause and don't start again, see http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?t=34614
Effect: Pausing and restarting viewing videos is no longer possible (I think this is an often used and thus important use case).

Of course a „must fix” is:

Only one category panel for filtering and searching: http://www.xnview.com/mantisbt/view.php?id=389
Too many and big improvements to note here:
- use entire tooling from Category panel for filtering (now we cannot do an incremental search to find a category to filter)
- tri-state filtering (IN, NOT IN, doesn't matter)
- speedups (just one tree to maintain, not two)
- much simpler code architecture
etc.

Thanks for your suggestions for "Must fixes", m.Th.. Reported bugs that are reproduced and prevent using the features currently available in XnView MP can become "Must fixes", only. Some missing features like the ones you listed are really needed and are important, but that's a different affair and list.
