Restoring and Retaining original photos

Post by ralphl »

I am experimenting with xnview .51 on linux.

1. I modified a photo, saved it and then wanted to restore to the original. Is there a way to do this? I didn't see an undo.

2. When I modify a photo, I like to retain the original as well as the modified version. Some photo managers put a suffix on the photo file name such as: "DSC01843.JPG" becomes "DSC01843.JPG (2)", or if multiple modifications "DSC01843.JPG (3)" or "DSC01843.JPG (4)". Does xnview have a feature to retain multiple version numbers?

No if you overwrite the file

When you save the file, you can change the name, but it's not automatically...

This thread suggests a nice XnView enhancement: Automatic backup copies

The user could specify some options in Settings:
  • Backup/Version settings

    [x] Backup when saving
    • () Prompt
      ( ) Save copy automatically here: [_________________][..]

      Name: [###.{Filename With Ext}.bak______________][v][>]
