Dell Inspiron-15 series Laptop
Model 15RV-1428
Windows 8, 64-bit, 4 GB RAM (OEM stock)
XnView Ver 2.0
When attempting to use the "Acquire" function to use XnView to take a web cam image, it is not working correctly.
XnView appears to be accessing the built-in web cam OK, but the image is extremely poor and fuzzy as if it is not getting enough data. The image is very pixelated and "smokey" appearing, i.e. a washed-out look.
Once connected, it starts taking an endless supply of still snapshots that I have to stop manually. None are viewable.
After stopping this function, I attempt to reconnect, but this time I get an error stating that it "cannot start VFW.".
This error will persist until I do a system restart.
However, when i plug in a cheap USB webcam externally, the system will see it and allow XnView to take still images the way the program appears to be intended to function.
I am wondering if the driver for the external web cam is causing a problem?
It is not causing any access issues with other web cam features or functions for Skype, Yahoo chat, or similar programs. I can select either the built in web cam or the external cam one with no problem. I am only seeing this odd behavior with XnView and the built in web cam in this laptop.
Does anyone have a similar issue? Compatibility issue maybe? Driver related maybe?
Thanks
