cannot open some pdf files

When trying to read some pdf-files I get "Format of the file <...> could not be determined" (the option Display all image files is on.) This happens with pdf files created by Paperport 14; the files can be read by Adobe Reader. Any suggestion?

you need to install ghostscript x86

Ghostscript (gs907w32) is installed (I should have mention it).
