Hi Wayne

As mentioned in my previous post, please go to Acquire from Scanner or Camera (WIA)... (instead of Select TWAIN Source...) in XnView's File menu to see if the scanner is listed there.

You may also want to open the “Scanners and Cameras” properties in the Windows Control Panel to check the status of the device.

This is a whole lot of information. Please don't hesitate to ask, if you're not sure which steps to take next.

Hi,

You have been extremely nice to take so much time to try to get XnView to work with my Brother scanner. Here is my conclusion:

This is what I found:
File Acquire from Scanner or Camera (WIA) opens a box that shows
Directory: C\
Filename: Scan
Start index: 2
Format: JPG-JPEG/JFIF

The box has buttons for Options, Import, and Cancel

The import box takes me to a small window that asks what do I want to scan with a choice of 4 settings, and buttons to Preview, Scan or Cancel. Clicking on the Import button turns on the MFC scanner and it scans. However, I cannot find where the scanned image is in my computer (if it really is there).

This is what I found:
Scan Properties for the Brother scanner shows:
Status: Device ready
On Port: \\.\Usbscan0
Optical resolution: 600x2400 DPI
Clicking on the Test Scanner button gave me a window with the message "Your imaging device successfully completed the diagnostic test.

After poking around further I have come to the conclusion that the full installation of the Brother original scanner driver was not completed and the windows built-in driver is being used instead.

After reading about the procedure to download and install Brother Scanner Driver, I have decided that (at least for the time being) it is more trouble than it is worth. At my age (especially when I am not feeling well) I do not want to take a chance on messing up my computer by incorrectly doing something. So far, it appears that I can scan using the Wndows driver and I will settle for that.

Yes, I absolutely agree: Better safe than sorry!

Your findings are proof that it's possible to access/invoke the MFC-7360N from within XnView through WIA import, but the preferred method would've been the TWAIN driver, of course :-|

The result of your test scan should be located in the root directory (C:\) of your PC, and the filename should be Scan2.jpg.

Related topics (for future reference):
One last thought: According to Brother's documentation, you can customize the MFC-7360N in order to have the scanned document opened with an application of your choice (i.e. XnView). Albeit not an ideal solution, this sounds like a viable workaround.
