Photoshop bug. (Finally) some steps.

Post by m.Th. »

I (think that I) got (finally) some steps for the (in)famous Photoshop bug: "While XnView MP is opened, Photoshop cannot save" (I leave upon our XnTriq the honor to find the references in forums :) ).

Steps:

0. (My Setup)
0.1 - Have XnView MP set up to open with Photoshop a file - Go to Tools | Open With | Configure Programs...
0.2 - Put the FullScreen view on the 2ndary monitor in order to have the file open while you work in the browser pane.

1. Select a file (.tif in my case from a LAN share - but I think that it doesn't matter) and press Alt+1 to open it in Photoshop
(Selecting a file means that the file is opened in FullScreen mode (see step 0.2 above) - perhaps a similar behavior happens with the Preview window, dunno.

2. Do some edits to file

3. In Photoshop press Ctrl+S to save file.

Expected: The file should be saved.

Actual:

The Photoshop correctly generates a blah.tmp file in the destination directory, deletes the old file and when it tries to rename the blah.tmp with the name with the old file it throws a message error "Could not save ..." etc. It is very odd that Photoshop actually succeeds deleting the old file (which was open(ed) in XnView) and the file correctly 'vanishes' from XnView MP but it cannot rename the temp file which correctly appears in XnView MP's thumbs pane to the original name.

Of course, closing XnView MP and repeating the Photoshop's save, everything is ok.
