how d I remove the directory up arrow in gallery view?

Currently the first picture that shows is the icon for going up a directory. It seems to adhere to thumb resizing, but is a nuisance because it takes up a picture slot. Is there a way to remove these altogether? I have searched high and low but can't find a setting anywhere.

You have to deactivate the checkbox for Parent folder ('..') in Tools » Settings... » File list » Custom filter » Used by Filter>Custom.
