0.78x64 (W10 x64) doesn't load the plugin Power Retouch

Post by jbacelar »

Conversely, (also in Windows 10x64) with MP-0.78x32 the plugin works perfectly.

The Power Retouche download page describes the plugin as:
Windows 32 & 64 bit
Both the 32bit and 64bit installer in one self- extracting zip file.
In response to the question:
Should the 32-bit/64-bit Windows installer install a plug-in version that will work with 64-bit applications on Windows x64?
...the developer Jan Esmann replied:
Yes, it will.
So on that basis, running the installer on Windows x64 should install a 64-bit plug-in...

And also possibly a 32-bit plug-in for 32-bit applications, or alternatively a single plug-in that will work with both 32-bit and 64-bit applications, if that is technically possible??

With MPx32 is OK the 32-bit plugin.
With MPx64 not work either (64 or 32), simply does not load.

I've now got the filters working in both XnView MP 32-bit and 64-bit ZIP versions, so possibly a configuration sequence issue, but as I'm not very familiar with installing filters it is difficult to give advice... :wink:

However:

The common PowerRetouch Windows x32 / x64 installer extracts to separate filter PowerRetouch-RS822-DEMO-x86.exe and -x64.exe installers in the folder selected;

EDIT: Please read on to XnTriq's second post below for details of the recommended installation procedure for 8bf filters.

The relevant version should be placed in the XnView MP filters folder, if not already there;

When Image > Adobe Photoshop Plugin... is selected navigate to the plugins folder and then run the installer .exe placed there which extracts the plugins to the folder;

The installer instructions that appear refer to restarting [XnView MP] after the filters have been installed, after which they should become available for use...

This is the installer text for 64-bit version:
Make sure the installation path points to the Plug-Ins (or plugins) folder of your desired host application (ie. Photoshop).

This is the 64 bit version, so the path could for example be:

C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Photoshop CC (64 Bit)\Plug-ins\Power Retouche

After installation start (or restart) the host application, and the plug-in should appear under the menu "Filter" under the sub-title "Power Retouch".
I can't guarantee that the above sequence is exactly correct without reinstalling the filters to check... :wink:

XnViewMP installation is not equal to the Photoshop.
In MP it is: With an open image, menu Image, Adobe Photoshop Plugin (Ctrl + G) and in the window that opens press Setup, Add (here you select the folder with the plugins) and OK.
We return to the window Adobe Plugin and if we are in MPx32 will see plugins to select with which we work.
But ... if we are in MPx64 in the window Adobe Plugin not see anything.

Did you restart XnView MP x64 after running the x64 plugin installer to place the files in the plugins folder?

I have it working:

FYI: We've had conflicting reports…

Anonymous wrote:Harry's filters works fine. So XnView is not compatible with all plugins? Is there a list of compatible ones?
XnView is compatible with filters from Alien Skin, DCE Tools, Filters Unlimited, Neat Image, Nik, Photo Wiz, Power Retouche and most others.

One filter that is not compatible is Lucis Art.

I open the Plugin, the image is tranferred to the Plugin and I can do manipulation and see the result on the screen.
After pressing apply it takes a few seconds and XnViewMP64 and the Plugin crashes.

Any idea for a work around?

My computer is a Win 7 64 Bit machine with 4 GB RAM. A demo version of the Plugins can be downloaded from http://powerretouche.com/
… with regard to the compatibility of this plug-in.

Installation: I had a little difficulty installing the plug-in in x64, which I attributed to my inexperience, but as shown above it did install.

Crashes: Possibly related to particular effects? No problem applying and saving the Levels... filter for me, Windows 7 SP1 and XnView MP x64 0.78 :

cday wrote: I think my guide above could actually simplified slightly:

Extract the Power Retouch plug-ins download [to anywhere];

Run the x32 or x64 installer to install the plug-ins in the XnView MP plugins folder;

Restart XnView MP.

Then select a filter as usual from Image > Adobe Photoshop Plugin... .
Again, in Windows 10x64 with MPx64 that it does not work.
I see, above, with Windows 7x64 there is not problem.

Thanks for going to the trouble of installing the trial version, cday :-)

The plugins subfolder of XnView Classic and MP is where the so-called I(n)/O(ut) plug-ins go. These plug-ins enable XnView to load (in) and save (out) file formats that are not natively supported by its internal GFL library.

XnView can also act as a host application for Photoshop-compatible filter plug-ins (such as Power Retouch). Due to the fact that this type of plug-in usually has an 8bf filename extension, Pierre chose to name the subdirectory for Harry's Filters etc. accordingly.

For Windows users, it might be worth considering to install these filters in a subdirectory (e.g. Plugins) of the %CommonProgramFiles% folder and to point all of their host applications (including XnView) to this location.

Thanks for the clarification XnTriq, XnView software has so many capabilities and so many options... :D
