How to set colour when delete selected area

Post by Brother Gabriel-Marie »

When we draw a box over part of an image and push delete, MP will clear the area to a set colour.
I see I can change the colour in View mode under Edit > Background colour

And can I change it to transparent? I want to erase to transparent.

But there's no "transparent" to be chosen from in that dialogue.

Does this do the trick, Br. Gabriel-Marie?
The Delete key (= Edit » Clear) should make the selected portion of a 32-bit image fully transparent, revealing the checkerboard background in that area, if the corresponding option in Tools » Settings... » View » View is activated.

Ah, okay, I got that.

So, it will erase to the background colour.
If the image has transparency it will erase to transparent.
But if it doesn't (like for a jpeg) it will erase to background colour set in Edit > Background Color.

Okay. That sort of makes sense.

If it is a png, I am also able to change the background to transparent (if it isn't) by using Edit > Change Color Depth > 32bit. Good!

Thanks for your attention, XnTriq.

Yes, exactly. (Sorry for the confusion caused by my previous replies.)
