Hmmm, when I draw horns, glasses, beards and cigars on portraits in local library's books all my edits stay there without any extra efforts from my side, so I don't know, you're asking too hard questions...

Isn't it beddy-bye time for you, Mixer :-P
  • Save (Ctrl+S) overwrites the active file.
  • Save As... (Ctrl+Shift+S) saves the active image as new file.
Related setting: Tools » Options... » General » Operations » After 'Save as', change filename
  • Save opened image(s)... saves all active images as new files, adding sequential numbers as suffix to the filenames (default format = PNG).
    Related (hidden) setting: FormatSaveAll
  • Export... (Ctrl+Alt+S) saves the active image as new file and allows you to preview the result.
