Opening 16 bit tiff files
Opening 16 bit tiff files
Hello,
When opening a "16 bit" .tiff in XnView MP I get the message:
"This picture will be converted to RGB with 8bits per component"
I may be understanding incorrectly but I thought XnView MP was able to open "16 bit per component" (48 bit) files?
Thanks,
Mark

Re: Opening 16 bit tiff files
XnViewMP can load 16bits image but need to convert them in 8bits
Pierre.
Re: Opening 16 bit tiff files
Thank you.
To clarify....is this behavior different from XnView ('classic')?
The same message appears in both.
In the XnView Classic/MP "What's different..." thread it says:
"Support for full internal bit depth pictures 8/16/32 bits per component"
But I am not clear what is different (if both are converting to 8-bit?).

Re: Opening 16 bit tiff files
Currently it's the same as XnView classic, but in a future version

Ah, good!
I was just not getting the future development aspect.....so thought I was misunderstanding something.
Thank you,
Mark

... Any news Pierre, for a full internal bit depth pictures 8/16/32 bits per component support - reading/writing ... into XnViewMP ?PSHRutPark wrote:...IRIS worked a treat. I have 48 bit TIFF panoramas which wont load into Nikon Capture NX.
The solution is to load the 48 bit TIFF into Iris and then save it again, as a 48bit TIFF. The image now loads into Capture NX!
Your suggestion resolved a chronic "missing link" in my work flow.

Re: Opening 16 bit tiff files
I'm also interested in this. Currently, converting 16bit files into 8bit ones is pointless (at least in my case) since all such images that I open turn out completely black in XnView. It seems that it needs proper 16bit support. Am I missing something?
EDIT: I'm talking about XnView classic, not MP. Sorry.
Keep up the good work! XnView is fantastic otherwise.
