Problems with the category search

Post by SteAl1988 »

Hi boys and girls, I'm struggling a little with the category search. That's one of the reasons why I have checked the forum for a suitable thread, but found nothing.

Here's the problem: I search for pictures with assigned categories and either all pictures with categories are found or none at all :?

With "Categories is..." it finds nothing and with "Categories contains..." it finds all pictures with categories. Although only the categories of one picture are selected.

Is there something I missed? I hope you can help me. Thank you very much for your answer :)

Best regards
Steffen :)

Thanks for your answer. I tried it again and it worked. Maybe it was just a mistake in my thinking or my workflow I had yesterday. But I still have two questions:
  • How can I quickly assign several categories to a picture without having to right-click each time to open the menu.
  • Are the categories then saved in the image file? Or how do I make sure that I don't have to do it again if I change the computer or the hard disk?
Thanks in advance for your answer :-)

Add categories to the left hand pane (the bottom on some layouts)
I can have (say) 20 photos, 5 of which are railroads. If categories are open and I select those 5, one click adds them to that category

Go to Settings, Metadata and enable export catégories to xmp or iptc (only jpg photos ?).
For photos already categorized, you'll have to unmark / mark catégories to write them in photos.

Also thank you very much Michel! :D

But what do you mean with "only jpg photos ?"? That you don't know if it only works on jpg photos?

Some file types like jpg support xmp and iptc embedded metadata, Canon, Nikon,... raw files support only external metadata (xmp side-car files). For other file types, you will have to verify if it's possible...

Thanks again for your answers! But now I have a new problem. I set the categories and assigned them to a picture. Unfortunately, not everything remains as it is :? It started when I made top categories to capture the categories there.

After that, subcategories were gone, moved or renamed. Then I changed everything again, but it happens over and over again. And currently it is the same :?

What can be the reason for this?

Thanks in advance for your answers :)
