Please update to new version 12.09 of EXIFTOOL

Post by travelphoto »

Good day,
May I ask to update the EXIFTOOL to version 12.09 to be able to get more EXIF data for Olympus OM-D E-M1 MK3 images (Tags: StackedImages and DriveMode).
Thanks in advanced.

If your OS is Windows, you can download the new version of exiftool ...

Go to the installation directory xnviewmp, and go to the "AddOn" folder
- rename existing exiftool.exe > exiftool.old
- unzip the downloaded exiftool12.09.zip and rename exiftool(-k).exe > exiftool.exe in the same place as the original (...\XnViewMp\AddOn\ )

dear michel038, thanks for your information. Unfortunately I've forgotten to mention my OS is Mac OS Mojave. Do you have a solution for Mac as well?
Thanks and best regards,

You can "manually" update the exiftool in the XnViewMP app bundle on macOS.

 Note: I am not sure if there is a better more "official" way to do this, or if there are any unintended side effects.
:!: My guess is since this is just a perl library tool it's actually a pretty simple thing to do this drop in replacement.

Here is the process:
Download the exiftool you want to use as a drop in replacement (the latest is now 12.10)
it installs these into default locations:
(this is the executable)

Code: Select all

/usr/local/bin/exiftool

(these are two supporting folders)

Code: Select all

/usr/local/bin/lib/Image/

Code: Select all

/usr/local/bin/lib/File/

Then, open the app package for XnViewMP.app

Copy the exiftool file/folders from the above locations and paste them inside this application bundle.

You don't even need to restart the XNViewMP app although you might as well just in case.

Again, I don't know if this is supported behaviour and the XNViewMP app may soon have the updated exiftool embedded anyway soon.

Perform at your own risk! :D
