Filtering out certain image types

Post by traycer »

Hello all,

First, let me say that I love XnView and its cross-platform support! I recently upgraded to 1.80.3 from a much older version (might have been 1.74?). XnView now understands the Canon .CR2 raw files from my cameras, and will attempt to display them. I shoot in raw + JPEG mode, thus two files are created for every shot. Is it possible to filter out the raw files, and thus only browse/view JPEGs? The JPEGs are there for quick image browsing, but having to process the CR2s really slows things down.

I know it's a bit odd to ask an image viewer not to view an image , but I figured someone must have asked this before and I'm just not looking in the right place in the preferences to specify this. I see the "File Associations" section, but that only affects Windows Explorer's behaviour, not XnView's... is there something equivalent I can use to filter certain extensions?

I'll add a "ignore list" in the next release, see topic "Ignore list".

Some viewers have an option to only load associated filetypes while browsing.

What about moving the .CR2/raw files to a different directory?

Thanks, Pierre, looking forward to it!

Drahken,

That's my workaround for now (moving JPEG's to a separate directory), but that isn't always convenient, especially if I might end up with a directory that could have a mixture of CR2s, PSDs, PNGs, JPEGs, etc. and there is a dependency elsewhere in my workflow to have associated files in the same parent directory.

I take photos in JPEG and CR2 too in the same tame.

I have the same problem and I decided to turn back to the older version of XnView. It is not the solution for me to move CR2 files into other directory, because I used to go through the photos by JPEGs and when I don't like a photo, I mark JPEG version and CR2 version with CTRL key and then - delete both. Now XnView tries to show CR2 which takes a long time.

I'm not sure if I can download somewhere older versions of XnView...?

Which version do you have, thumbnail for CR2 is the embedded thumbnail (if you have the option).

Go to tools->options->browser->thumbnail->use embedded thumbnail and see if that speeds things up.

http://download.xnview.com/old_versions/ has several older versions of xnview.

Thank you for response

Yes, I have this option, but checking it doesn't change the situation...
