Also, I've noticed that multiple consecutive backups overwrite the previous one, not sure, but might it make sense to have an option to save backups in a similar fashion with suffixes (1), (2) etc. to make sure that lossless has no risk of a loss with the right config?

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.3.1. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

Yes, it creates a backup file now, though the extension of the backup is incorrect — it's .jpg, not the original .jpeg
