Mouse Back and Forward buttons

Post by osiris2258 »

The back and forward buttons on most modern mice are not used by xn view. They cannot be registered at all and cannot even be manually bound to anything. it would be nice if they would function as back and forward through the folder tree, as they do back and forward for websites in most browsers. Even if not made a default functionality, the ability to bind them if desired would be nice.

I also find myself wanting to navigate the folder tree with the "back" and "forward" mouse buttons. Very intuitive, and expected, especially since Xn is in so many ways similar to Explorer, where those keys work. At least as an optional binding. Thank you for considering! :)

also boundable Right Mouse Button would be nice. I know its a bit exotic but if you already work on the side button modification it cant harm to make it for the right button too :-)

Logitech's Marathon, Signature, MX and other are amongst the top sellers in the mouse industry, that have side buttons. it's not exotic at all. it's silly that there's no option to customize it. however, it's possible to customize those buttons in your mouse manufacturers app if it's provided. but in most cases I've tested it still does not work like it should on win10. some conflicts or smth. prevent it to work properly (for instance when hovering over a window and buttons are active in explorer). all in all, it's a bit overwhelming how much went into XnView and how much useless options there are (like 95% of it), but most vital and useful features are being missed out for daily usage.

by exotic i meant a boundable right mouse click.
Sure you can remap sidebuttons within manufactors config (setpoint, options+ and so on) also app specific but for example you cant remap left/right click in options+.
an other way would be using x mouse button control. in this case there is no need to change xnview :-)

anyway it would be nice to have all this inside xnview without the need to use an external tool or driver software.
my point was just to add right click modification (rebound) too if we already get sidebuttons modification.

It does something, but in a less intuitive way. It seems to work simply by the file tree and not by the history.

That seems to work now. However, a normal left click is also always executed, so that at some point when it no longer goes forward or backward, this opens images or directories.
