Re: Folder ratings disappear
I do use the rebuild thumbnail feature a lot. but I don't rate folders until after I rebuilt the thumbnails. Do you think rebuilding the thumbnails of some folders will cause the ratings to disappear on others?
Re: Folder ratings disappear
No i don't think, but perhaps there is something with 'rebuild thumbnails'. Are you able to find a way to reproduce?Ilikemyprivacy wrote: Mon Jun 09, 2025 4:56 pm I do use the rebuild thumbnail feature a lot. but I don't rate folders until after I rebuilt the thumbnails. I am not, unfortunately, I was really hoping someone here might know what I am talking about and the solution; or at least someone else might have complained about a similar issue.

When you try to reproduce, it works? The only way that i reproduce is to tag folder, and use 'rebuild thumbnail'Ilikemyprivacy wrote: Thu Jun 12, 2025 10:51 pm I am not, unfortunately, I was really hoping someone here might know what I am talking about and the solution; or at least someone else might have complained about a similar issue.

Re: Folder ratings disappear
No I only rebuild thumbnails once and then I start rating the pictures in the folder. Unless your saying rebuilding thumbnails elsewhere will cause random folders to lose ratings. When I add new pictures they often need to be rebuilt but I've seen ratings disappear on folders just by opening a folder.

do you add pictures always with XnView or windows explorer?Ilikemyprivacy wrote: Sun Jun 22, 2025 11:57 am No I only rebuild thumbnails once and then I start rating the pictures in the folder. Windows explorer, but I'm not doing anything to the folders when they lose their ratings. They just drop the ratings at random.
Re: Folder ratings disappear
Are you working or doing your tests only in C:\Users\TNTol\OneDrive\ ?
Did you try anywhere else ?
Perhaps this folder is a case of unexpected behavior ?

I don't use onedrive, that costs money. I think onedrive has a really small free version but it's not large enough for my needs.
But if you think there is something wrong with the folder that might be confusing XnView that might be the case. Do you know what might cause trouble?

What makes folder a onedrive folder? It looks like a regular folder on an external hard drive to me.
EDIT: I thought a onedrive folder was a folder kept on OneDrive. Isn't that an offsite data storage company? I don't use those because they usually ask for a monthly prescription.

Re: Folder ratings disappear
I don't know what to check. Also I don't think any folder has lost its ratings in a while. The problem might have been fixed in a later update. How about we consider this problem solved and if it happens again I will let you guys know.
But if it hasn't been fixed an easy solution would be to allow me to open all pictures with a rating from the folders. If I could just select multiple folders and press "Open all selected" while having a rating filter it would definitely solve my problem. The option exists within a folder, you just go in, select a rating filter, select all pictures that show up under that filter, then click "Open all selected."

Re: Folder ratings disappear
It happened again and this time not only can I reproduce it, I think I know what's happening.
It happened after I updated to a new version of XnView. If I...
1. Rate a subfolder under a previous version of xnview
2. Get a new version of xnview (update it)
3. Go to the main folder with all the subfolders that are rated
4. Change to another screen
5. Go back to the screen with all the subfolders that are rated the rating's will disappear.
It's not as big a deal as it used to be as I simply add a #1-5 after the name of the folder with a rating. So if folder "ABC" has a 1 star rating I change it's name to ABC #1 and if it has a 5 star rating I rename it ABC #5. Then I search for # (whatever) under "quick filter" and all the folders with a specific rating show up.
The ratings stay after they are added under the new version of xnview, which I can do by simply searching #(rating) and then add that rating to all the folders. Can anybody tell me what is going on? Like I said it's not a big deal anymore with my workaround but it would still be nice to either know what's going on and if it can be fixed.

are you able to reproduce if you use 1.9.2 and after 1.9.3?
