Settings - interface - mouse - add Horizontal scroll

Post by user0 »

XnViewMP 1.7.1
Windows11 (23H2), display resolution 3840x2160, dpi scale 150%

Settings - interface - mouse
Viewer has Vertical, but no Horizontal scroll via mouse wheel, which is inconvenient

Suggestion
  • add 'Horizontal scroll' to the list of wheel available actions
so user can assign it, eg to Shift/Alt+Wheel

I agree 100% and came here to say same thing.

Majority of current programs have horizontal scrolling mapped to Shift-SCROLL WHEEL.

(e.g. web browsers, pdf-browsers, many image editors, etc..etc..).

There should be "Horizontal scroll" option here for same in XnView MP.

done in 193

issue
action assigned to Alt has opposite effect
eg assigned Horizontal or Vertical scroll to Alt+scroll, actual effect Vertical or Horizontal scroll

SHIFT side effect
Action assigned to Shift has the effect of accelerating page scrolling (affects keyboard and mouse).
Perhaps a setting should be added to disable this effect.
However, this is a topic for another discussion.

eg assigned Horizontal scroll, buy actual effect - Vertical scroll
I can confirm this. Tested in viewer:

bug set1: ALT
alt-horscroll: vertical scrolling
alt-vertscroll: horizontal scrolling
alt-zoom in/out: zooms only out in both ways

bug set2: inconsistent scroll speed
- when doing one click of shift-vertscroll it feels like it is doing 10-20 clicks of it, jumping very far away
- when doing one click of alt-

- in browser if alt is assigned to vert scroll it scrolls only down in both ways (but this does not bother much as you would scroll without a modifier. But it is a bug)

In browser window with files shift-horscroll seems to work fine.

OK, horizontal scrolling Shift + SCROLL WHEEL works... but for Me, it has too much big step.
It's not so smooth like up/down scrolling.
