There's a glitch in Auto Zoom functionality, where the Auto Zoom behavior is broken after fullscreen mode.
Steps to reproduce:
1. Set Auto-Zoom to "Fit Image to desktop"
2. Double-click a file in the browser to open
3. Zoom so Window is smaller than the desktop (space all around)
3. Go to full-screen in viewer
4. Zoom in or out
5. Hit escape to exit fullscreen
6. Auto-zoom behavior has now reverted to "Fit Image to Window"
I discovered this when I was trying to get XnViewMP to behave the way I wanted:
XnViewMP is faster and better in pretty much every way compared to Irfanview, but one is holding it back from completely displacing Irfanview on my system...
There doesn't seem to be any way to get different "Auto Zoom" behavior when the viewer is launched from a file vs when it's launched from the Browser tab.
When I double-click on a file in Windows Exporer, I want the XnViewMP window to resize according to "Fit Image to Desktop".
But when opening images from the XnViewMP browser tab, it would be horrible if the window kept resizing itself; the window size needs to be maintained. Here, it needs to obey "Fit Image to Window".
We need two Auto Zoom settings!
There's already a "Start with file", "Start without file" concept in General->Startup.
Could the same thing PLEASE be added in Viewer setting, one Auto zoom setting for "Start with file" and another for "Start from Browser"?
Auto-Zoom needs a fix

Re: Auto-Zoom needs a fix
Could this be addressed for the next version?
It would be good to have the fix, and even better to have the additional Auto Zoom setting.

1.8.3 - viewer - auto zoom - resets to 'No fit'jkm wrote: Sun Aug 10, 2025 8:56 am There's a glitch in Auto Zoom functionality, where the Auto Zoom behavior is broken after fullscreen mode.
It works fine (for such weird mode as "Fit Image to Desktop"), I see no reason to add any other options, sincejkm wrote: Sun Aug 10, 2025 8:56 am There doesn't seem to be any way to get different "Auto Zoom" behavior when the viewer is launched from a file vs when it's launched from the Browser tab.

Auto zoom settings are already overengineered with 'Last used' options.

The reason is so that Auto-Zoom behaves better in two different use cases.user0 wrote: Tue Aug 19, 2025 6:22 am I see no reason to add any other options, since Auto zoom settings are already overengineered with 'Last used' options.
Launching from a file, for a quick view as an individual ad-hoc image viewer, is a different task and use case from browsing from an established folder or hierarchy of files.
If it's not your use case, that's fine. But the presence of the option does not harm you, so there's no need for you to want to deny others better functionality for their use case.
