I can not understand why in WEBP quality 100% does not mean lossless quality, but select lossless quality means lossless quality, why this so?

I select quality, and there not said what I select only lossy mode, because I think what this misleads )

I offer rename mode quality to lossy mode )

I guess the WEBP developers use the same settings like JPEG,
set JPEG encoder to 100% quality means lossy compression, too.

The only difference is that WEBP has an additional lossless compression algorithm, which JPEG has not.

It might be confusing to users that a 100% setting doesn't mean lossless but highest lossy quality instead.

I suppose what quality range 1-100 was make when absent lossless methods , then yes , range 1-100 mean what 100 this best quality ) but after add lossless methods compression value 100 and value lossless should be identical , otherwise I methods need split to lossless and lossy and about this need say in process select method ) If this not do , then I can not understand , which idiot think is what quality without explanations what this lossy mode with 100 not same as lossless quality mode )

And this misleads in more software , often developers create plugin and think what value of quality 100 this is lossless
moreover in ACDSee still quality 100 and lossless identical , but both mode is lossy
