Right, bug reopenedjkm wrote: Mon Sep 29, 2025 6:31 pm The format should be Width:Height. So 4:3 is landscape, 3:4 is Portrait. That is the convention.
XnviewMP is showing the reverse: 3:4 for Landscape, and 4:3 for Portrait.
Also, the DPI problem still exists:
Try this:
Set the browser display to details, and then switch folders a few times. You will see DPI=0.
EXIF values in browser details and metadata panel are not consistent

This problem is supposed to be fixed in XnView MP 1.9.5. Please check and confirm the bug fix here.

Re: EXIF values in browser details and metadata panel are not consistent
Not fixed.
Ratio is no longer backwards. It now shows 4:3 for Landscape images, and 3:4 for Portrait images, which is correct.
BUT...
When using only details view, DPI still shows as 0 and ratio doesn't show as 3:4 for portrait images, it wrongly shows as 4:3.
The DPI and Ratio columns only display properly in Details view if Thumbnail view is used first.
As I said previously:

As I said previously:
After using Thumbnail view, then switching back to Details view, DPI is populated correctly, and portrait images correctly show ratio as 3:4 instead of 4:3.Data is getting refreshed/read in Thumbnail view that is not getting read properly in details view.

Even if you 'update catalog from files'?jkm wrote: Tue Oct 14, 2025 5:45 am When using only details view, DPI still shows as 0 and ratio doesn't show as 3:4 for portrait images, it wrongly shows as 4:3.

Re: EXIF values in browser details and metadata panel are not consistent
Yes.
Since when did "update catalog from files" become a requirement to get details view to display properly? Something is not right about that.
If I do update catalog from files, it now shows DPI in details view, but it does NOT fix the problem with the Ratio column.
In Details view, without using Thumbnails view:
Before doing an update catalog from files, Ratio column is wrong.
Update catalog from files, then column is correct.
Switch to a different folder, then back to the original folder, and Ratio column is WRONG AGAIN.
Using "update catalog from files" fixes the DPI column display for those particular files across runs of the application, but it does not fix Ratio column except for a single viewing of the folder; switch folders, and the Ratio information is wrong again even for those files you updated from.
Since using Thumbnails view populates the Ratio and DPI columns correctly, using "Update catalog from files" should not be necessary to address this.
Update catalog from files is slow and should not be forced on large databases unless necessary. It is not necessary here, because Thumbnails view refreshes the info and makes DPI and Ratio display correctly in Details view.
Can you explain why using Thumbnails view changes what is displayed in Details view? Because that is what is happening. That is the key to this.

Re: EXIF values in browser details and metadata panel are not consistent
i can't reproduce. With a clean catalog, starting XnView in details mode, landscape images show 4:3 and 3:4 for portrait.
If i change folder and go back same thing...

Re: EXIF values in browser details and metadata panel are not consistent
Just for you, I deleted the database and did the same thing. The DPI field is correctly filled out for all files now that the DB is rebuilt (which forces a metadata refresh).
But...
In Details view, images show 4:3 for all files, until Thumbnails view is selected. Then Portrait files show as 3:4. But switch directories a couple of times in Details view, and it goes back to showing 4:3 for all files.
Perhaps someone else can see this and test?
