Browser - Catalog filter - add counters

Post by user0 »

XnViewMP 1.8.7
Windows11 (24H2), display resolution 3840x2160, dpi scale 150%

Browser - Catalog filter
there are few inconveniences with counters in Catalog filter pane:
- counters are not available for all filters except Tags and Categories
- existing counters are always applies to whole catalog, ignoring Match option [global, current folder, etc]

Suggestion
browser_catalog_filter_add_counters.png
  • add counters
    - Rating
    - Colour label
    - People
    - Album
    - Special items - Uncategorized
  • improve counters
    - move counters from 'name (x)' to separate column to increase readability
    - make counters respect Match option
  • (optional) add options
    - enable/disable filters (and 'Hide filter' option in the context menu of filter itself)
    - enable/disable counters (could be in Filter context menu as well)

Example
  • filters in Capture One, ACDSee, digiKam, Lightroom, Bridge

+1 on all points expressed above, and to which I would add one more: the ability to sort be count value (from fewest items to most and vice versa).

+1... with a small addition for "Special Items": If numer of (tag)ged item is 0, leave out the zero (as everywhere), and show count for "All".

Very good suggestion! It could make sense to add this counter also in the tree folder view
So that we know many files are in a certain folder!

counters available via Hidden settings

Not better for people who hate the right-aligned look. Readability decreases as the width of the pane increases, and the counts get further from their corresponding labels.

panel is intentionally narrow by design and numeric values are more readable in a dedicated column. it is obvious as a day.
if someone uses it wide for some reason - they are free to modify default settings
