v26 - rating of pictures in jpegxl and heic format are unsupported

Post by masterjp »

I checked my camera folder with different heic format picture files (samsung s23 plus), which use jpeg or heic format.
I try to rate my heic format photos and xnview skipped the file with the info: unsupported file format.

jpegxl files are also unsupported picture files for the rating feature.

How does the rating feature work? Does it save the rating within the meta data of the picture file or use a separate database for rating informations?

Currently the rating is saved in metadata of the file. Not sure on android it's good to use the database to save rating...
For HEIC i use the Android API, but very limited. I'll use libheic later...
jpegxl files are also unsupported picture files for the rating feature.
It works here, please send me a jpegxl sample?

Here is a test heic file directly from samsung s23 plus smartphone (firmware from july 2026). I reduced the original filesize (3.3 MB) with xnviewmp for windows to 1.6 MB to prevent the upload limit of 2MB.

I converted this file with xnview mobile to jpegxl (85% quality). This jpegxl I could not rate.

I did some further tests with older heic format files from my samsung s23 plus camera. The older heic pictures do not make any problems during rating. That is strange. I am not sure, if samsung has changed the heic file format during the last months with the latest firmware updates.
