Welcome to the forums…

It looks like you turned on “Show clipping”. Press J to turn it off.

Maybe a warning dialog when you first turned it on would have helped you.

Also, it's a good idea to look at the forums or search before posting. Many questions are already answered. Someone just asked this same question just a few posts below yours.

Hello, thanks for your idea but it did nothing to get rid of the blue background.

Remember, this is a MAC desktop running Mojave 10.14.6

Any other ideas?

Thank you.

Perhaps you changed the shortcut key. Settings:Interface:Shortcuts:Browser->cmd_showClipping

You're not seeing a "background" on the preview panel, those are the black pixels in your image that are being colored blue by the "show clipping" function.

Close the app, delete your xnview.ini file, restart the app, and that will reset your settings to defaults.

Then it looks like it's in a different location on a Mac, or there's a bug so you can't access the settings. Since the app is undocumented, that's unfortunate. Have you looked in that XnView menu? You'll need to find the settings or preferences if you want to check the shortcut mapping. Have you tried clicking that gear icon on your toolbar?

Or delete the ini file as previously instructed.

You have the "Show clipping" feature turned on in the preview pane. You probably turned it on by pressing the shortcut key, which is J by default. If the shortcut key is no longer J, that's because you changed it (in the settings).

The other way to turn it on and off for the preview pane is to show the histogram pane, and click the triangles in the top left and right corners of the histo.

Turn the "Show clipping" feature off, either with the shortcut key or by using the histogram or by brute force by deleting you ini file, and you will not have the "blue" problem, until you turn it on again.

Ok JKM I navigated to the gear...... see screen shot.

Not sure what to do now. I selected the Preview and typed "J" on it and it did nothing.
