Probably most of us only have a few file types we actually save in
Can I suggest customisable accelerators be available, I cannot see anything similar in the GUI.
This could be as simple as a list such as
j;jpg;x;jxl
to indicate Alt-J will change to JPG, Alt-X will change to JXL
though with some caveat about the type of jpg.
Irfanview provides a different way by detecting when you type the extension and switching to that format.
However this idea could be expanded by having a whole settings set (extension and settings) associated with an accelerator, so you could save an accelerator for Jpg at 75 (and other settings), another for jpg at 50, another for jxl at 88, and so on, since we probably all have a limited number of settings combinations we use regularly.

I think Export could have them as well but I'd argue the whole point of the Save menus are that they are used, otherwise they needn't be there, and if they are used they would benefit from accelerators or presets. The same accelerators/presets could be available in any of the save scenarios.
I think a "named preset" is also a good idea, then there could be a pop-down list, and optional accelerator could be part of their options, so you could have say 5 named presets, and 2 of them with accelerators.

This issue is constantly on my mind, so my ideas have improved a bit.
Firstly, it's essential for workflow to have presets that can easily be called up for Saving (obviously there are different variations of Save - save copy, save frame, export).
Assuming they can be created somewhere, the key thing is to pull them up quickly when needed. Here are some ideas for doing this -
* Have the preset appear in the Type box of the Save dialog, for example as well as "PNG - Portable Network Graphics (*.png, *.apng)" etc, you would also have your presets to choose from coming under their titles, e.g. "JPG - 75% progressive", "JXL - 85, effort 6" if you've called them that. That still involves two clicks, so a shortcut would be desirable that operates only in the dialog, for example you might have assigned Ctrl-7 to that, and it automatically chooses it without any dropdown of the type combo.
* The presets could optionally appear as buttons if they are given a button title, so in the above you might have given button titles J75 and X85, and you just click the button and it applies the preset and changes the type.
* You still have to pull up the save dialog and it could be the preset chosen could use that shortcut in the image (not dialog) context that tells it want command to execute first, so Ctrl-7 could be assigned to open the Save dialog and in doing so apply the preset, all you then need to do in an image is press the shortcut and type in the filename. If no dialog choice is filled, then the shortcut only operates in a dialog context, not the image context.
I would expect that like me most people only have a small number of frequent settings they use for saving, and that anyone who has to do a lot of images and constantly changes around which of these settings is used would find this immeasurably helpful for workflow.
