Flickering thumbnails view with 'All other files' unchecked

Post by Pygalgia »

Hi,

Normally in the thumbnails view, the thumbnails just load and that's it.
But when you uncheck Browser -> Items displayed -> 'All other files' in the 'Show item in view 'Thumbnails'' column, the thumbnails flicker a few times (the thumbail window is cleared and quickly redrawn again) when selecting a folder from the tree (or pressing F5).

The more pictures in a folder, the bettter it's visible.

It does this even when there are no 'other files' in the folder. Or, even more bizarre, when View -> Filter by is set to Images, the flickering still occurs. As said, the flickering stops when 'All other files' is checked again.

I've reproduced this on 3 different winXP pc's, with all other settings left to their installation defaults. This bug was already present in 1.80.3 and still is in the last (1.82b3) beta.

As you can imagine the flickering is pretty annoying :?. Thanks for developing and sharing this otherwise great image viewer. :D

Yes a known issue, not really a bug. XnView first check all files in your folder, and remove files that are not pictures...

And I thought I searched the forums pretty well :)

But I see, so it's not being adressed then, too bad. I just want to see images and videos in the browser list, without the flickering but I guess it's not going to happen... But I don't understand why the flickering also happens when there are no 'other' files in the folder, or even when Filter by 'Images' is selected?

Alternatively you could make an option to Filter for Images and Videos (under the View -> Filter menu) I could turn 'All other files' on again and I'd be happy :D

Frankly in rc1 I do not see any flickering when selecting folders and flickering after F5 I consider perfectly OK- I know something's actually happening at least.
