Crash of xnview if not starting as administrator

Post by Gerold »

Hello,

till now i used xnview as afministrator without problems.

Because of security gain i switched all users to not administrators users. But now I cannot start xnview anymore. As admin, xnview runs still.

AppName: xnview.exe AppVer: 1.80.0.0 ModName: ntdll.dll
ModVer: 5.1.2600.2180 Offset: 00001010
XP latest version.

Please allow not admin users to work with xnview!

Please remove xnview.ini from program folder (a known issue)

Hi!

I had the same problem with the new 1.82.1 (Windows XP Home SP2, XnView installed over 1.80.3-installation).

XnView crashed after I tried to open the MyPictures-folder located at "D:\Eigene Dateien von Norbert Glauner\Eigene Bilder" even if the folder was empty.

If I started XnView with Admin-privileges it was not crashing with this folder. If the MyPictures-folder is configured as start-folder it has the same effect described by Gerold.

Removing the xnview.ini does not help. If you install the 1.80.3 over 1.82.1 the older version has the same problem. Deinstallation of XnView, removing the xnview.ini manualy and installing the latest version again solved the problem for me.

Best regards,

Norbert

Yes, the problem exists if you have an old .ini in XnView folder...

Have you removed xnview.ini from xnview folder?

Yes I removed the xnview.ini file and it didn't help. The program crashes about 8/10 times that I load it.

And the cache folder?
In user Application Data/XnView, do you have the cache and xnview.ini?

No, I do not have the xnview.ini or cache directory in Application Data/XnView. I coped the ini file over and created the cache directory but it still crashes constantly.

Could you disabled options/browser/Cache, and remove all xnview.ini from your computer?

:) Hello !

• Just an idea : Are you using any third-party Shell alternative application ?

- This causes often many issues…

 Kind regards,

I meant---

:) Hello !

• Well, this app. has a Shell extension, but I meant an Explorer Shell replacement.
- Some are great, but even the best ones could cause issues with some programmes, i.e. TC-users having such “Shells” got similar "buggy" behaviours, up to be unable to run the soft ! Here, I don't use any…
