Problem with IPTC

Post by PierreDubarry »

HI,

I compare Xnview, Kalimage, Psp11, Photoshop CS2 for editing IPTC (using JPEG files).

When i write IPTC data with XnView, i don't see these data with others software.

When i write IPTC data, with Kalimage, i see these data with Psp11, Photoshop CS2, BUT NOT with Xnview.

What is the problem ?

Note : when i use an hexadecimal editor (or NotePad), in the file where IPTC data are written with Xnview, i can read data in ASCII form. For files where IPTC data are written with other software, Kalimage for example, IPTC data are not in ASCII, so no readable in text form.

Perhaps IPTC are saved in XMP, could you send me a sample, please?

IPTC

Post by PierreDubarry »

Exuce me, i think i have done bad test.
For example, i don't have see options on JPEG format for meta-data EXIF and IPTC !

I just done another test : i have made pictures with IPTC data with :
- ACDSEE 9
- KALIMAGES 2.1.3
- PHOTOSHOP CS2
- PAINT SHOP PRO XI
- XNVIEW 1.82.4

All IPTC data written with each tool are readable by others.

The only problem is the choice done by each tool : IPTC Data set selection is note the same in each tool.

I have done a web page with my pictures test :
http://dubarry.pierre.free.fr/iptc/

So Xnview works fine for IPTC, with more data than PSP11, but less than others.

A little question : when i save IPTC data, i think that picture part is all modified ; with JOEG copression it is bad for the picture. It could be better modify only meta-data if picture itself is not modified.

Thanks for your work.

writing iptc

Post by raul »

Hi from Spain:

I have a problem writing IPTC data and I thank to write here in this topic.

When I write IPTC keywords in thumbails mode data is saved.
However, when I write keywords in a only tab for that image, and I save changes, data isn't written. And all the keywords of this image are deleted.

My version is 1.82.4.

Thank you very much for your attention.

Which IPTC settings do you have for writing?
Pierre.

ok I see.

It is strange..

A few minutes before I was writing IPTC data and the settings were visible, but now they are hidden.

The only marked option is the second (merge with existent...). And the only visible option is the first (keep atributes..).

this occurr:
when only one image is editing iptc data, the settings are hidden (only the first is visible).
and when more than one image is selected and editing iptc data, the settings are visible and modifiable.
