XnView Requires Internet Access?

Post by torrbo »

When I start XnView it trys to connect to "omtrxpix.rd.com". If I deny access, which I do, the program runs for a few minutes then hangs up. Is internet access required for the program to run properly?

From where ?

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

• I never saw this…

• XnView should need an Internet access if you ask for the forum or its Web site via the Info menu… But this address seems to be a fake.

• Here, I've several versions installed, and none asks for the connection.
- I've a firewall which'ld indicate that immediately !

• Which version are you running ? And please, let's know from where you got it.

 Kind regards,
Claude

Internet access

Post by torrbo »

Claude, thanks for responding.

I downloaded the latest version (1.82.4) from the XnView website.

My previous version (1.82.2) also acted the same way only with a different url

And today when I started the program My firewall again caught XnView wanting to connect to "www200absolutehome.com.

I captured the firewall message from my screen but I don't know how to insert it in the post.

Strange behavior?

Some malware…

Post by Clo »

:) Hello !

• Since you have the same issue with a correct new version, my feeling is that there is some malware in your PC,
maybe not really a virus, but a spy or so.

- The second URL you quote here is also a fancy one…

• Anyway, this is not caused by XnView, I guess.

- You might run an up-to-date anti-virus, i.e. Avira-Antivir Classic (freeware), and also a spy-killer like Spybot or similar.
- Please, pay attention that these malwares set themselves often as “hidden files”, so it's good to display all files in Win.

- I would bet €1 (no more, though…) that these programmes'll find the culprit !

- Please, let's know the continuation, it's always useful !

- To show a capture here, you must upload the image into a directory of your Web-site (if you have any), or else use an image-host like many do.
- Personally, I use my Web-sites, because the images are not deleted after a certain delay …
- On the board, use the marker [ img ]URL_of_the_image[ /img ] it's available on the message editor
(I added spaces inside here, but they don't exist normally)

This doesn't sound like an Xnview related issue.
