1.96.1: Crash deleting a hidden file

Post by zencd »

1) Let there be at least two image files: one hidden and one normal
2) Open the hidden one with xnview
3) delete it with DEL button
4) the program crashes:

XnView for Windows has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

AppName: xnview.exe AppVer: 1.91.0.0 ModName: xnview.exe
ModVer: 1.91.0.0 Offset: 000ae115

Windows XP SP2, XnView 1.96.1

P.S. I'm wondering why "File version" is 1.91.0.0 while Help/About says 1.96.1 ...

:) Hello !

• I cannot reproduce that issue. I tested a hidden file with which I started XnView in Total Commander
via D&D on its icon, so in normal “View”.
- I tested too from the browser >> Select its thumbnail >> Remove, no problem, no crash.
- In both cases, the hidden file is deleted.
- In “View”, I get the next file displayed (I have set this option).
- Win XP-Pro SP1 - XnView 1.91.6

I can't reproduce the crash either.
Are you using Delete to the Recycle Bin or not?

Could you try to disabled option/view/misc/Read ahead?

:) Hello !
Could you try to disable option/view/misc/Read ahead?
• That box IS ticked here, it doesn't cause any crash (and also I delete directly, not to the Recycle Bin)…

This matters! I disabled "read ahead" and the crash has gone.

P.S. I delete files via Recycle Bin

The files remains the same: they are two within the folder: one hidden and one normal.
