Batch-renaming with date format YYYYMMDD

Post by Lars Holm Thomsen »

Hi

Using my digital camera - I have a lot of img######.jpg files.
I want to rename my files using the EXIF-data stored inside the file plus some text. Using the <Date Taken> mask - this gives both the date and time in a very long format (YYYY-MM-DD_HH-MM-SS) and I only need the date

I want to rename these files to YYYYMMDD (read from the EXIF) plus some text (YYYYMMDD Description).

Is this possible as a batch-renaming process?

Use Creation date file attrribute, it should be the same as EXIF Digitized date.

Thanks for your answer!

This is shorter, allright, but <Creation Date> gives the date of the format DD-MM-YYYY and not YYYYMMDD that is much better when sorting!

Any other suggestions?

Currently this is not possible, but a discussion is already going on, see topic 'Batch Rename - Date formats and unique incremental index'. Please add comments there.
