A way to recreate registry problem:
1. Start with no Xnview references to it in registry.
2. Make the first and only association you make:
[x]Associate slide file with Xnview
3. Close Xnview.
4. Select unassociated image in MS explorer.
5. Now use MS explorer's Open with function to choose Xnview from list of programs.
6. *The bad key will now be associated with Xnview.

To solve the problem, you have to remove "-slide" in the appropriate registry value which is described in the same topic:

There is a bad key in registry, please remove -slide from:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\xnview.exe\shell\open\command
"C:\Program Files\XnView\xnview.exe" -slide "%1"

Correct is:
HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Applications\xnview.exe\shell\open\command
"C:\Program Files\XnView\xnview.exe" "%1"

I just installed 1.93.6 on Windows 2000 Pro and had this same problem. The solution provided by Helmut above fixed it. Thanks.

I've got the same versions of XNView and Windows, and reproduce the problem.
But with the Helmut's solution, it works perfectly.

This really should be fixed as part of the install..
every single user that I know complains about this when I first install.. and to need to go to registry is not good first impression.

I've installed XnView on multiple computers with a wild range of configurations throughout the years and have never seen this problem to pop-up. Weird.
