1.96: Incorrect bit-depth thumbnail detail for Lurawave JP2

Post by Guest »

Description:

XnView thumbnail details displays a bit-depth of 8 for JP2K files (with higher bit-depths according to XnView Properties) with the Lurawave JP2K plugin.

I have tried a clean reinstall of XnView, but continue to observe the same results.

Environment details:

- OS: Windows XP Professional SP3 (x86)
- XnView v1.96 Final
- - New XnView.ini
- - LuraWave.jp2 Dll v1.1.0.16

Workaround:

1. Temporarily remove "\Plugins\lwf_jp2.dll"
2. Generate/rebuild thumbnails for JP2 files (thumbnail cache enabled).
3. Restore "\Plugins\lwf_jp2.dll"

Question:

Is it possible to select/set a preferred plugin to use for reading when multiple plugins for a format are installed (eg. Jasper and Lurawave) ?

Thank you for creating XnView.

Lurawave plugin load only on 8bits/component

Not possible...

Why you don't use Jasper plugin?

Does the "8bits/component" refer to "Bits per Plane", "Bits per Pixel", or something else?

To verify:

In the Alt+Enter Properties->Image tab, of all of my JP2K files, it indicates (amongst other things):
  • LuraWave JPEG-2000 Format
    Bits per Plane: 8
    # of Planes: 4
    Bits per Pixel: 32
The thumbnail label for the same file reads:
  • Filename.jp2
    LuraWave JPEG-200...
    1600x1200x8
However, a Photoshop PSD image I have which has similar attributes:
  • Adobe Photoshop Document
    Bits per Plane: 8
    # of Planes: 4
    Bits per Pixel: 32
The thumbnail label for the same file reads:
  • Filename.psd
    Adobe Photoshop Do...
    1280x1856x32
I had assumed the bolded parts indicated "Bits per Pixel"; if not, what does it reference?

I used the LuraWave plugin instead because: If you would be willing, could you give your personal opinion/recommendation which is the better (or pros/cons), and the (possibly technical) reasonings behind it?

It's 8bits per plane or per component
