Browser crashes on attached JPEG

Post by GeorgD »

Hi all, after fresh XnView 1.96.1 install on fresh install Win7 RC1 64bit German I used XnView and it worked until I opened a folder containing the JPEG http://rapidshare.de/files/47336936/P4219546.JPG.html in browse mode. Other image viewers don't have trouble with the file.
Best regards, Georg

:) Hello Georg !

• Glad to see you again here ! :D
• Well, I can confirm the crash here, I tested the image in Browser mode, it's the only in the folder…
AppName: xnview.exe AppVer: 1.96.0.0 ModName: xnview.exe
ModVer: 1.96.0.0 Offset: 001c1e3e
- No problem in View mode, though. I tested on Win XP-Pro SP1 - 32 bits (thus, it isn't OS-related…)
• Aside :  Sorry, sorry, but I ought say that this image-hosting sucks a lot… :(   :P

I can't confirm the crash on Windows 2000, but JPEGsnoop is reporting two errors:

Code: Select all

*** Decoding SCAN Data ***
  OFFSET: 0x00004AD5
  Scan Decode Mode: Full IDCT (AC + DC)

  Scan Data encountered marker   0xFFD9 @ 0x002F0FE0.0
  Scan Data encountered marker   0xFFD8 @ 0x002F0FE2.0
  NOTE: Marker wasn't EOI (0xFFD9)

Code: Select all

*** Embedded JPEG Thumbnail ***
  Offset: 0x00002000
  Length: 0x00001A26 (6694)

<-- snip -->

  * Embedded Thumb Marker: DHT
    Length = 418
ERROR: Expected marker 0xFF, got 0xA9 @ offset 0x0000226D

Me too. I had to pull it out from Firefox's cache (3.150.854 bytes).

Hey Pierre,

that image is the only one I ever got from my digi cam making troubles. In case avoiding the crash is much work on exception handling, you may just ignore it - one bad in >30.000 pics is OK for me :)

yes, I've focused on other software areas during the last 2 years. I'm having some free time during autumn and plan to organize & geo-tag my complete image collection -- so it's quite probable that I'll be present in the forums and also have a look at the old threads I've been interested in :-)

Yes, rapidshare is not the most convenient service that is not altering images, but I didn't find a better quickly. I'm happy to receive recommendations ;) Thanks for forwarding the image to pierre!

Best regards, Georg

Thanks, I checked it out - MP has a really nice, efficient, modern interface :) and showing the location is great. Sadly, it is still in early stage and lacks too much functionality for my use case, e.g. the map delay is too high (is >20sek!), I can't set the default zoom level, show multiple files at once, use Google Maps Terrain, change the location on the map, use Microsoft Bird View,... Hence, for Geo I will continue GetSetter, but will re-check XnViewMP every now and then :) Remark: I opened a topic for that, see http://newsgroup.xnview.com/viewtopic.php?f=60&t=18702

Yes, it really was. Now it's quicker, around 2-3sec. In GeoSetter it always appears within 1-3 sec, so it's not my connection.

The file loaded is on ww.xnview.com site, so perhaps was slower
