Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
I'm sure this topic is covered somewhere on your site, but I have not been able to find it.
I downloaded Zip32.dll and placed it in the .../xnview/plugins folder.
Info on plugins shows that Zip32.dll is recognized as "Zip Archive Encoder"
with copyright from Info-ZIP.
But when I double click on a zip archive in the browser, Xnview shows
the first file in the zip archive. I would like it to open the zip archive as
if it were a folder; which would then allow me to view any file in the archive.
What am I doing wrong?
Thanks

Re: Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
Hello, try highlighting file in browser and pressing <F11>. Browser's fullscreen has different functions than viewer's.
Re: Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
Hi Marsh:
F11 does nothing when a zip or rar file is selected.
If I select a jpg file and hit F11, the image opens in fullscreen mode.
Thanks

ok, press <enter> to open archive, followed by <F11> on image. Then navigation will be possible from one image to another.jimvj wrote:Hi Marsh:

dlls should go in program's "AddOn" subdirectory (if using newest version).
Options>General>Keyboard/Mouse>Open Action>Archives [x]Open in XnView
Re: Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
Hi:
I moved the zip32.dll to Addons.
The options...Archives [x]Open in XnView is/was this way
I am using version 1.96.1 (May 13 2009)
I am using Vista Home Premium with a 64 bit Intel processor.
(I would guess that all 32 bit programs will run correctly on a 64
bit processor; though the reverse may not always be true.)
I still have not been able to get zip or rar files to be expanded
in XnView. Is this topic discussed somewhere in the Xnview
documentation?
Thanks

Thanks.
One more question:
How do I setup XnView so archive files do not show up in the folder tree?

Re: Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
Yes, in Windows Vista zip archives are shown in the folder tree. It's painfully slow when expanding a folder with bunch of zip files.xnview wrote:archive are shown in tree view???jimvj wrote: How do I setup XnView so archive files do not show up in the folder tree?
Option to disable this behavior (if it's even possible) would be nice.
XnView Tweak UI - Tool to customize your XnView beyond the regular XnView options.
UI-less Settings - Documentation of all the hidden settings in XnView.
XFAM - Tool to create and customize XnView file associations.

Hum, strange. I don't add zip in the treeview, so perhaps it's an option in windows explorer??ckv wrote:Yes, in Windows Vista zip archives are shown in the folder tree. Re: Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
- Download deskew_sample.zip and put it into an empty folder.
- Create a subdirectory and copy deskew_sample.zip there.

On same pc?? You should have an extension in windows explorer for that...XnTriq wrote:Is this a bug or a feature?

Re: Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
My screenshot shows XnView-win-full.zip & XnViewMP-win.zip on the same PC, and I don't have any extensions installed that would make Explorer treat archives like folders.xnview wrote:On same pc?? You should have an extension in windows explorer for that...XnTriq wrote:Is this a bug or a feature?
I've seen similar behavior of XnView v1.96 with some PowerPoint and Acrobat documents. It seems that PDFs/PPTs/ZIPs are identified as “JPEG based files”, if XnView finds a JFIF header at the beginning.
Tools » Options... » Browser » File List » Misc.:
- [ ] Recognize only by extension
Scan file headers in folders: [ Always ]
Re: Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
Update: The images in a ZIP archive have to be uncompressed/stored for this “feature” to work.XnTriq wrote:I've seen similar behavior of XnView v1.96 with some PowerPoint and Acrobat documents. Re: Plugin for viewing zip and rar archives as folders
I guess you also have unchecked the "Recognize only by extension" option.XnTriq wrote:Update: The images in a ZIP archive have to be uncompressed/stored for this “feature” to work.
XnView finds a jpeg file from the zip because the files are not compressed in the zip. So I guess it's an unintended feature made possible by other features... Kind of cool, actually.

Edit: Uh-oh, I just saw the configuration in your post below.
Also, this works without the unzip plug-in too.
