In my case Ctrl-Alt-A (Acquire) is not working (nothing happens). Call via menu items works as expected.

I have upgraded the system and the software.
Win7 Ultimate, XnView v1.97.8 – the same problem. It looks like it depends on Scanner Software (I have "CanoScan LiDE 100" scanner)?

I have found the problem. There was a "global" key combination LCtrl+Alt+A defined by KeePass. It is definitely not a keyboard layout change key.
