1.98 Grayscale PSD files no longer load

As of XnView version 1.98, grayscale PSD files no longer appear to be loading.
The same files load properly in the previous version 1.97.8.
I was able to reproduce the issue on a fresh install of XnView 1.98 on two different computers,
one running Windows XP Home SP3 (32-bit) and the other Windows 7 Professional (64-bit).

It should be a 200x200 pixel image of a vertical gradient from black to white.
When I try to open it in 1.98 I get a dialog that says "Error reading the file <graytest.psd>."

RGB and CMYK PSD files seem to load fine.
If I convert the above file to RGB and then save it in Photoshop, it loads correctly.
