:) Hello !

• Yes, a trivial one ! Image

- I also tested with a folder having sub-dirs in which not any file has this kind of info, to ensure me that's not intentional…

- However, as soon as you open any of these sub-folders, the overlay icons go away and don't come back…
…till the next session ! :P

I can't confirm that behavior. Is caching enabled on your installation, Clo?

:) Hello !

• While checking the oddity reported by budz45 THERE, I found another side of the bug reported here :

1. In the Browser, display a bunch of files having not any metadatum, i.e. some icons in a small folder,
2. Set the display as List+Detail
3. Create a descript.ion file for any icon.
• In the Info column of this (text) file, you have XMP - IPTC - Exif overlay icons ! :P :bug:

I'm using XnViewMP v0.38.7 of 22/Jul/2011 with caching disabled (portable mode).
  • Tools » Settings... » Browser » Cache DB
    • » Thumbnails » Enable thumbnail caching = deactivated
      » Excluded/Included = all drives/partitions excluded
%ProgramFiles%\XnViewMP\XnView.db is 22,528 bytes in size.

Yes :-(

I always do a “clean” (= from scratch) install of XnView and XnViewMP.
I even remove the Trolltech registry settings.

You have that on all folders?
  1. Delete %ProgramFiles%\XnViewMP\*.*.
  2. Delete %AppData%\XnViewMP\*.*.
  3. Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\XnView\XnViewMP.
  4. Delete HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Trolltech.
  5. Extract http://download.xnview.com/XnViewMP-038-8-win.zip to %ProgramFiles%\XnViewMP\.
  6. Start XnViewMP.
    » Browser automatically starts in %UserProfile%\My Documents\My Pictures\.
» All subfolders have three overlay icons (XMP + IPTC + EXIF) :bug:
  7. Change these options in Tools » Settings...:
    1. Deactivate Enable thumbnail caching in Browser » Cache DB » Thumbnails.
    2. Delete all cached directories in Browser » Cache DB » Thumbnails » Cache maintenance.
    3. Click on Delete all and Clean thumbnails and Optimize.
    4. Add Excluded C:/ and Excluded D:/ to the list in Browser » Cache DB » Excluded/Included.
    5. Set Save settings in Integration » Integration to as INI in folder XnView.
    6. Set Folder used for other files in Integration » Integration to XnView.
  8. Restart XnViewMP.
» All subfolders of %UserProfile%\My Documents\My Pictures\ now have four overlay icons (Rotate + XMP + IPTC + EXIF) :bug:
  9. Close XnView.
  10. Rename %ProgramFiles%\XnViewMP\XnView.db to XnView.old.db.
  11. Start XnView.
» All subfolders of %UserProfile%\My Documents\My Pictures\ have three overlay icons again (XMP + IPTC + EXIF) :bug:
  12. Close XnView.
    » XnView.db and XnView.old.db are both 22,528 bytes long.
