XnView for windows has stopped responding?

Post by dg8 »

Good day all - First I am new on this site and my apologies if this is the wrong forum, I have been using XnView for several trouble free years now.
I am using windows vista and the main usage of XnView is to open and use clipart from a C.D., as I have said it has served me well with no problems until today.
When I opened XnView I got the usual screen, clicked on the clipart folder, and XnView started to open the clipart in that folder. It would display ten - 15 images as it progressed through the contents of the CD - then it freezes and I get a message “XnView for windows has stopped responding”.

I have had several attempts to open the CD Clipart (still the same response), I shut the computer down then started again (still the same response), I have deleted the program then installed it again (still the same response), I have ensured the CD is clean and scratch free (still the same response)
No other programs are presenting me with issues, other CD’s are functioning okay - it is only the Clipart & XnView. Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrong and how to fix it please
All the best.

:-) Welcome, dg8!

Please tell us which version of XnView you are using.
What's the format (GIF, JPEG etc.) of the graphics on your clipart CD?

I'm using Windows Vista, service pack 2,
the version of XnView I have is Version 1.97 (Nov 27 2009) - Libformat Version 5.54
and the the graphics on the CD are WMF's

Not sure if the version of XnView is the same as the original version as I deleted the original when it stopped working today
and downloaded this version which presented me with the same problem?

Have you tried to disable the High resolution setting in Tools » Options » General » Read/Write » Read » WMF » Parameters?

I don't think so. High resolution means even more work for your PC.

We have to wait for Pierre, the developer of XnView. He will probably ask you to send him a sample file for analysis.

Sorry about this - I don't know what you want?

The C.d. contains 12 folders - each one a category - the XnView opens one folder (always the same folder) and while in this folder I have access to any of the files. If the file I require is in a different folder, as soon as I click of the folder I want the program freezes.

What do you require me to send to you and how do I do this?

I'm sorry for not being intelligent enough to understand.

Regards.

Oh, XnView freezes only when you change the folder...
If you try to change the folder, but without view WMF files, always the same thing?

When I click on the XnView icon on the taskbar the program automatically opens the same category folder in view mode - I don't know if this can be changed or how?
If I click on an other category in the tree section, the folders in that category are displayed in XnView but when I attempt to open any of the displayed folders the same thing happens each time - stopped working.
