Layer Editing Images

Post by VuDu »

Hi there,
this is half a sugestion, half a question.

I think it'd be very usefull to: if pressing the Shift key while making a selection on a image, the selection would grow/shrink with proportional width/height.

The question is: if i make a selection then use "Copy" and then "Paste" it'll paste the selection on an on-top layer(?) on the top-left corner like expected, but the problem is that i can't move that pasted selection. That makes it kind of useless, right?

Unless there's something i'm missing :?

take care :D

Make your selection, copy it, make another selection, and paste it

Think that would be a useful feature.

Think you have to copy the selection (Ctrl+V), then move the selection and then paste into the selected area. You can move the selection by pressing Ctrl and then dragging the selection.

(The way Pierre describes above will work, too, but it is likely that you get a streched and distorted content since the pasted content will be stretched to the selection's size.)

Thanks for the quick support!!!

Your description worked as expected, but I'd like to know if it's possible (or may/will be possible) to move that pasted area around. I know that you don't want to turn XnView into Photoshop ;) but I'd love to see featured a minimal layer support so that we could play a bit more with Copy/Paste selections. :D

Another few tiny things (maybe worth splitting into another topic?):
- I noticed my "Set Selection ratio/size" -> "Custom" are greyed out, why is that?
- Is it possible to change the font face of the information in View mode ("I" key), since all the other properties seem to follow the full screen options.
- Could it be added a shadow/glow/stroke/(whatever...) effect to the Information because the opaque background covers a lot of important Image space. It should work like movies' subtitles with transparent background or simple shadow, outer glow or small stroke.

Salutations and Grüße for Pierre and Helmut. Keep the astonishing work!

The editing is pretty limited that's true.

Definetely, but too late, now. ;-)

You can make a selection and save its ratio as custom using "Edit > Save selection as Custom". From then on, you can use your custom selection.

Right, all options in "Show information" affect both view mode and fullscreen mode, which means that the current tab "Fullscreen" is wrong. For some reason (bug) the Font does not change. I think the "Show information" should move to a common tab and Font face should surely affect both view and fullscreen mode.

Right, again. Disabling the background in "Show information" will make reading the text hard in some cases. Using the background will cover a lot of image space. Options like in "Image > Add text..." would make this perfect:
- Text colour
- Opacity
- Outline

(A good default setting and no options would be also o.k., having option will surely please even more people.)
Salutations and Grüße for Pierre and Helmut. Keep the astonishing work!
Thank you - hope all is o.k. on your side. We have to mail, again... ;-)

When using "show info", the font is not changed????

it works when using one picture.
but i am often copying something from one picture to another.
it would be great if one could move the selection after pasting it!
when i paste from one picture to another its impossible to paste it with the original proportions (like helmut said it stretched to the selection size), and also i never want to paste it to the upper left corner ;).
