Why two fullscreen modes?

Post by Brasileiro »

Why are there two fullscreen modes?

I've read this on a topic about loading images on separate threads, but could not find the explanation for the two modes on the help file or searching the forum.

I do not know for sure, but I guess "fullscreen lite" is fullscreen mode run directly from Windows (I am not sure if it is the only way) and is a programatical construction aimed at speeding up XnView startup when used as a system image browser.
Fullscreen lite has afair 3 options that affect only its operation and not "normal" fullscreen.

It confuses me too.

The secret behind the two fullscreen modes are that there are no two different fullscreen modes.

Really these "two" modes are (or should be) identical. When XnView 1.8 was in beta test stage, the beta testers noticed that there are some differences in the fullscreen mode depending on how you enter fullscreen mode and the second fullscreen was born to clarify the bug reproduce instructions.

But officially. Far as I know, there are no two fullscreen modes in XnView.

This was new to me? What are these options?

The two fullscreen modes are there for technical reasons. These fullscreen modes should be identical and transparent from users perspective, but in fact and unfortunately they aren't.

Please see explanation and discussion in topic "1.80: Two Fullscreen modes?".

They are for 1.80:

View>Maximize View when Open
View>Fullscreen>Enable navigation with left and right mouse button
View>Fullscreen>Hide play bar

Thanks.

I have no idea what this does... ? Actually I can't recall this option at all. :)
Xyzzy wrote:View>Fullscreen>Enable navigation with left and right mouse button
View>Fullscreen>Hide play bar
In XnView 1.80.3 these affect to both fullscreen modes.

Edit:
Now I get the "Maximize View when Open" option. But this option doesn't affect to fullscreen at all.

So just as I thought. The modes are identical, no differences or changes of any kind. It just starts to fullscreen instead of normal view. If someone knows any difference between these so called modes, please... speak now or forever remain silent! :D

Yes, Maximize is not for fullscreen, my mistake.

But:

Cannot find the post for the other option.

Delayed high quality option affects fullscreen lite (from browser) only.

No, at startup it's normal / view mode fullscreen.

Fullscreen lite is the lightweight fullscreen, i.e. the one without a window opened for this image.

An example:
When switching from browser thumbnail directly to fullscreen you are in fullscreen lite. Whereas when switching from thumbnail to image view and then to fullscreen, you are in normal fullscreen.

No, it's not FS lite, it's a standard/old/view mode FS, believe me. Try to make a selection, you can, in FS lite/browser mode FS you can't do this.
