Color Profiles (ICC) and color spaces.

Post by FKCapitalism2 »

Is there way to display in Settings > View > Info what is the currently embedded ICC profile name like sRGB or Adobe RGB, ProphotoRGB etc?

Inside Settings > General > ICC

Image

If "Use ICC profile for monitor" is
unchecked - then color space embedded in image trough ICC profile is ignored?
checked - then color space embedded in image trough ICC profile is converted to whatever system or custom profile i specify?

Why do i need to specify any color profile here if i already specified one in windows settings?
Image

How exactly this option works "RGB Profile used when embedded profile doesen't exist", meaning if image has no ICC profile embedded then XnView MP will assign specified profile to image and then will convert it to profile i specified in "Use ICC profile for monitor"?

When Use ICC profile for monitor turned On it shows more dull, i assume its a proper way of displaying this image?

When i have Use ICC profile for monitor turned OFF, i see image more vivid, could you explain why this happens?

i assumed if image is in sRGB format even with color management off it should show as sRGB?

I figured it was a color profile i used for my monitor making color more dull, tried a different one and it works good now.

Interesting thread, even if I get a different result.
PNG colors become dull (in a wrong way) for me if I don't use my monitor's ICC profile (in system).

(I wonder if it changes automatically if I move Xnview's windows to a secondary display)

Not enough information, upload the files or screenshots to check. Try older version of XnView etc. pretty use you can figure it out.

Here are two example files.
For me their colors look different in XnviewMp, without the monitor ICC

@phaolo: Is the colour difference you are seeing present when the images you posted are viewed on the forum?

When images are uploaded some metadata may possibly be lost, I'm afraid I can't elaborate, does anyone know?

If you don't see the difference, attaching the original files in a ZIP or similar archive should ensure that they can be downloaded and viewed the way you see them.

No, they look identical in the browser (Firefox).
(P.s: the hair's highlights are slightly different due to the jpg compression, however)

I tried re-downloading them from here and the behaviour is the same, so no related metadata was lost.
I doubt I can post the full originals, instead.

Here is a JPG screenshot of the PNG image in the program without ICC

I downloaded both attached photos from your post, they both look identical to me colors and brightness wisein Firefox and Xnview MP v1.5.3.

Perhaps go in XnViewMp folder and rename xnviewmp.ini to something else and then start program again with clean settings and see if still going to notice any differences.

Done, but I got the same result. So weird..
Maybe it could be because I'm using an old Windows 7, but in theory XnviewMp should still support it.
