I read my camera histogram fine, it shows 0 and 255 values running up the sides of the histogram. But in xnview I can never tell if the values are blown or not, since there seems to be a white margin on the sides.

reading raw
I set raw read embedded thumbnails. This means it's not really reading the whole file.
I wonder then why it takes 4-5times as long as reading a pure jpg of the same dimensions?

Re: NEF too dark?
thanks. This confuses me. I was seeing the jpeg, but the jpeg is also 100% size? I thought jpeg was only thumbnail size.
I have some Q about settings for RAW
Gamma is 2.2
what's the 'standard' setting for brightness?
what is 'high resolution'

I guess you mean camera RAW not RAW
What does auto brightness do?
I don't know how to set the gamma etc bottom 4 boxes
I tried crazy stuff like brightness 0.1 and it makes no diff to the view..

NEF too dark?
when I shoot indoors on my D80, the camera shows a fine pic. When I move the NEF to Xnview, it shows up much darker. Is there an issue with how XnV shows raws?
I see the same thing with Pentax raws, but not such a big drop.

Re: Portable XnView.db
"changed to relative paths"
how would this work?
unless the xnview.db and category.db are in the same drive as your pics.
I know mine aren't!!

You can't.
There was a request to copy categories into IPTC tags, but not implemented yet. Maybe if more ppl find it useful...

Re: Suggestion: Hover preview
wouldn't that risk bloat and making it really slow?
There's a reason Lightroom is about 300MB!
I don't want XnView to go the way of ACDSee.
