Well, Pierre. Not strange. More a microsoft windows 8.1 issue. Feels like all new extreme system protections in win 8.1 developed by MS is more or less redundant and worthless for the common home user.
"Locking the door to my home from outside and throw away the key, just to be on the safe side"-strategy.
It doesn't matter if I install xnview 2.10 or earlier versions, still the same result: run it as administrator is the only way to make it work.
If not, you can only see this in the "Select Twain source" dialog box:
WIA-CanoScan LiDE 110 1.0 (32-32)
But if you run as administrator, you see this:
CanoScan LiDE 110 17.0 (32-32)
WIA-CanoScan LiDE 110 1.0 (32-32)
And as Adama stated before, the ScanGear 17.0 driver from Canon is the wanted one, WIA driver is useless.
Instead of right click and choose "Run as administrator" every time, there is a way to change it permanently by going to the exe file properties and check the "Run this program as an administrator" in the compatibility tab.
Look at the attached Picture.
