[v2.22] Select Twain Source

Post by Adama »

Hello all,

I have had the same problem with a Canon LiDE-110. Newest Driver (17.0.4) didn't appear any longer in menu after updating from version 2.20 to 2.22.

Going back to 2.20 corrects the problem for me.

Hi Pierre,

that's correct. The moment, I install 2.22 the Canon driver is no longer choosable in the twain sources, only the driver from Windows.

If I'm going back to 2.20 the driver is to seen again.
Best regards

Hi Pierre,

I'm using Windows 8.1 Update 1, the "Windows driver" is the original WIA driver installed by Windows (see wia.png) with limited options.

The driver I'm missing after installing 2.22 in the twain sources is the Scangear driver from Canon (see scangear.png) which is version 17.0.4.

Hello Pierre,

try this one, but I don't know if it's working without the scanner: http://www.canon.de/Support/Consumer_Pr ... e=download

Hello Pierre,

just tried it: Both entries are shown in XNViewMP 32 Bit. Scangear works without problems.

Hi Pierre,

I think I've got the hint to the problem: The same time I've installed XNView classic 2.22 I have also installed XNViewMP 64bit for testing. After this I've had the problem.

I have tested Classic 2.22 again (now with parallel installed XNViewMP 32bit) and now there is no problem with choosing the Scangear driver from Canon.
Best regards
Ingo

SOLVED!
I had exactly the same problem with a Canon LiDE 110 scanner and latest drivers from Canon (ScanGear 17.0.4).
On a brand new Windows 8.1, it worked for several days. Then suddenly it stopped working, only the crappy WIA driver was available as twain source.
I was searching on google for hours and days, but I couldn't find any answers on this problem.
At first, I blamed it on the scanner drivers, second I blamed the USB drivers, third I blamed the XnView (tried older versions with no luck). But no one was to blame. Except for WINDOWS 8.1 itself!!
I was real close into changing back to a windows 7 system installation, when I found out what the problem was:
The solution was simple; I just had to run the latest version of XnView as an ADMINISTRATOR (right click xnview icon and choose Run as administrator) and the Canon ScanGear driver showed up!

Really very strange... Same problem with XnView 2.10?

Well, Pierre. Not strange. More a microsoft windows 8.1 issue. Feels like all new extreme system protections in win 8.1 developed by MS is more or less redundant and worthless for the common home user.
"Locking the door to my home from outside and throw away the key, just to be on the safe side"-strategy.

It doesn't matter if I install xnview 2.10 or earlier versions, still the same result: run it as administrator is the only way to make it work.
If not, you can only see this in the "Select Twain source" dialog box:
WIA-CanoScan LiDE 110 1.0 (32-32)

But if you run as administrator, you see this:
CanoScan LiDE 110 17.0 (32-32)
WIA-CanoScan LiDE 110 1.0 (32-32)

And as Adama stated before, the ScanGear 17.0 driver from Canon is the wanted one, WIA driver is useless.

Instead of right click and choose "Run as administrator" every time, there is a way to change it permanently by going to the exe file properties and check the "Run this program as an administrator" in the compatibility tab.
Look at the attached Picture.
