How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
Recently I had to replace my desktop (W10) for a new one which came with W11 (home). I had to reinstall all software including XnviewMP (version 1.3.1). I copied the old xnview.ini to its new location but still all my settings are defaults. I also cannot change these defaults; XnView does not seem to update Xnview.ini (although its time mark changes). The location of my Xnview db does not seem to by changeble (remains in Appdata/Roaming). Is there a migration instruction for XnViewMP that I could check? What other steps could I have skipped in the migration process?
Thanks in advance.
PS I checked the FAQ but couldn't find a post on migration to new installation.

Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
Yes, I do have an xnview.ini in the programs folder. I even tried to replace the newly created one (by the new installation of XnViewMP) with a copy from the former installation. Nothing works so far. My Xnview database is in a separate partition together with my foto's. Could you mention the files that hold my specific installation settings? I still have the old version and have not changed anything in the database after the new installation yet.
Thanks for your help.

Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
If XnView is installed in 'Program' folder, you need to remove it
Pierre.
Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
Your advice was just to remove the file. Is that all? XnViewMP requires Xnview.ini isn't it? Should the file not be installed in another location? I followed your advice (off course) but XnView still does not start up with my settings.

Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
Thanks Pierre for your reactions. With the attached screenshots I'll try to describe the integration settings. My Xnview.ini is in the programsfolder (D:\Programs\XNView). My DB is on a separate partion (I:Media\Foto's\XnView\Xnview) this is stated in the settings and the correct location opens (re screenshot). However, when I click on 'open the Database location' XNview does not seem to 'recall' the location as it opens with the desktop. (re screenshot).

Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
you must not have the .ini in the program folder (rights problem), but use C:\Users\...\AppData\Roaming\XnViewMP
Pierre.
Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
Following your advice I changed the location of the Xnview.ini file to the Appdatalocation. Now this location is found correctly. But would it work at all with a copy of the ini file from the old computer? Or do I have to go over all settings agian in a fresh ini file? I renamed the other Xnview files in Roaming as I prefer to have the db and Thumbs in a location that can be backup more easyly (same location as foto's). Re screenshot. Although I indicated the new location for the db (and coinsequntely thumb) in the integration settings, the db is not found (even after a save of the settings) and instead the desktop is shown as db location.
It seems also impossible to save the location of favourite files. These are not maintained after a program shut (via file menu).
Sorry to bother you again, but I would not see all my tagging work with a couple a thousand digitalized slides go down the drain just because of a computer switch.

Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
Copying the o0ld XnView.ini wasn't enough to get the program working in W11. First I had to adjust all file references and paths in the .ini file. Secondly I had to change the location of both Thumb.db and XnView.db to the system user folder. It does not work with an ajusted folder location under integration settings. Seems strange a bit to me. So now my db file is in the W11 users file on C:\ ; not a favourite location. Do you have an explanation that the adjusted location doesn't work anymore? I used to have it under W10.
Thanks anyway

Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
the location for the .db wasn't kept after copying the .ini??? could you send me the old .ini?
Pierre.
Re: How to migrate XnViewMP to new PC?
In the integration settings I can change the location of the db; but the new location is not maintained after shut down of the the program. When I click on 'open the location of the database' button in the settings screen the desktop is shown.
It seems that .ini files are not accepted as attachments in this forum. I have 2 versions available: the actuel under roaming and the orignal from the old computer. Could I send them to a specific emailadress?
