I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
Good day.
Translation made with Google Translator.
XnView MP program
To scan photos I use the output resolution of 300 dpi.
However, when I open the photo with Photoshop the resolution is 72.
From the tests I have also done with other programs, perhaps the problem is in the XnView MP program.
How can I solve it?
Thanks

Your images cannot be viewed as the resolution is too low, but:
1. Are you scanning from within XnView MP?
2. Which file format is the saved scan? Possibly PDF?

Re: I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
Have a good day.
I attach two more images.
I highlighted the two boxes where, in the first, the Xnview one, the acquisition value is indicated: 300 dpi (the scan was done as a photo and not as a pdf) and in the second box, the Photoshop one, the dpi value is indicated: 72.
I don't understand why this change.

Thank you for the clearer images, I repeat my questions...
1. Are you scanning from within XnView MP? [Using the TWAIN interface]
2. Which file format is the saved scan? Possibly PDF?
Maybe you can also attach an example scan output file?

Re: I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
Have a nice day.
Yes, I used the XnView MP program.
The file format when I save it, is .jpg.
A test file is 4 Mib.
Since the forum accepts files up to 2 Mib, I attach a link to my Dropbox.
Best regards

Re: I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
These are the properties of your image viewed in XnView MP as displayed in Image > Properties... [the 'i' icon on the toolbar]:
The DPI value isn't displayed but is in fact 72 DPI, so the value displayed in Photoshop is actually correct.
If you look at the displayed 'Print size' both the image width and height are close to 1000 cm, so the issue seemingly lies in your Epson scanner settings: if that is the file exactly as output from the scanner, I have no idea at the moment where the problem could be.
If you need to print the image at a particular print size you should be able to do that in the XnView MP print settings, if you would like to correct the image DPI to convert the image to a desired physical size you can change the image size in Image > Set DPI..., or you can use Image > Resize... to directly set a desired physical size.
Note in passing that reducing the image JPEG Quality value even slightly from 100% should considerately reduce its file size, with a significantly lower value such as 80% possibly producing an image not obviously visibly different from the original when viewed on a screen.

Re: I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
Have a good day.
Thanks for the directions.
I did some tests, I don't think the problem is in the scanner but in the XnView MP program
Indeed.
I have a Canon 900f scanner.
If I use the program provided by Canon and set the acquisition value to 300 dpi in the settings, the file that comes out has a resolution of 300 dpi even in Photoshop.
The same thing if I use the FastStone Image Viewer program. I set the acquisition value to 300 dpi in the settings and the file that comes out has a resolution of 300 dpi even in Photoshop.
On the other hand, if I use the XnView MP program, I set the settings to 300 dpi but in Photoshop I have 72 dpi.
A greeting

Thanks, that does have a certain logic, but nonetheless seems quite surprising.
Pierre, a bug??

Re: I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
I have now posted a bug report for this reported issue to assist investigation.
Re: I scan at 300 dpi but the photo then appears at 72 dpi
@nicola.gentile.vt:
Pierre was unable to reproduce what you reported, his test image scanned at 300 DPI had the expected properties.
If you find an explanation for the DPI value you obtained, it would be helpful if you could post it here.
