Viewing archives does not work properly

First off, I have to say that I don't know the feature "Browsing archives" and haven't followed discussion led during testing phase.
I've just tried to open a ZIP archive and a RAR archive in XnView 1.90.2 and found the behaviour confusing and/or buggy:

ZIP archive
When double clicking on a ZIP archive nothing happens.

RAR archive
When double clicking on a RAR archive the last image in the RAR archive is opened in view mode. This is better than nothing, but when trying to use the "Next" button to navigate to the next image, nothing happens because the last image in the archive has been opened.

I have tried a archives with images in them, only. The images have been Zipped/RARed without any path information.

Personally I would have expected that when browsing an archive one would see the thumbnails of all the images that reside in the archive - perhaps I have misunderstood or this does not work properly for me for some reason.

Does archive browsing work for other people?

No. I've just installed it and it is listed in the Plug-Ins information. But when clicking on the ZIP archive nothing happens (same as before).

O.k., I've unpacked the ZIP add-on into the subfolder "PlugIns", which was wrong. I've moved the three files to folder "AddOn".

Looking at the AddOn webpage I can see there is another AddOn named "Archive". After downloadind and installing this AddOn viewing ZIP archives work.

As written above I haven't dealt with this matter before. But I think installation and dependencies inbetween AddOns is quite a hurdle.

Some suggestions:
- Download packages with subfolder path included
All Plugins and AddOns should be zipped with relative folder ("Plugin" / "AddOn") included. Then, the user simply unpacks the ZIP archive in the program folder of XnView and everything is alright.

- Make naming of subfolders consistent
Currently subfolders are named "PlugIns", "Filters", "Skins" but "AddOn", and "Language". That should be made consistent.

- Independent AddOns
If possible AddOns should not depend on each other. If dependency cannot be avoided, there should be a clear hint that another AddOn is needed.

Hi,
I am able to view the pictures in my zip files.
Out of curiosity, I tried and could view the contents of the zip file posted by helmut in the forum.

On study, I realized that if only zip.zip is unzipped into addon folder, I am also am NOT able to view them.

However, if I place the contents of archieve.zip into the addon folder, then only, I am able to view the pictures compressed into the zip file.

Is zip.zip meant for compressing the files only?
Is Zip.zip file also meant to view the contents of zipped files? If so, it is not working for me too.

and archieve.zip meant to viewing the contents of the zip/rar/7z/other files only?

I will be too happy to read answers to these questions.

There are about 6 plugins to be placed in the addon directory. And there are more than 30 plugins provided by third party developers. More may be added with time.

For one like me, who loves experimenting with varous available facilities, unzipping each of those plugins into a single directory (addon or plugins) may create problems particularly while trying to remove some of them.

So, I request Pierre and all third party plugins developers to install (unzip) into a different subfolder corresponding with the particular plugin.

for example, neroCD plugin may be placed in the folder .../addons/neroCD and so on.

Request Pierre and the developers of third party plugins may consider the possibility.

Installing plug-ins & add-ons into subdirectories could also help to eliminate the guesswork when tracing down bugs:

• JPeg 2000 images distorted or not displayed
• JPG2000 Thumbnail generation takes loooooooong time
